In 2009, I hung this show at The Anna Leonowens Gallery in Halifax, NS.
My husband and I had gotten married at the end of his exhange year, and a week afterwards we separated to finish our final years at university.
The loneliness and longing I felt for him inspired me to paint this collection. the paintings documented the way we experienced each other that year: through a screen, complete with pixellations, glitches, and distortions. In a way, painting these images allowed me to be with him throughout the day.
The paintings faced each other in the gallery as we faced each other through so many hours at the screen.
Needless to say, our reunion rendered further paintings of this kind unnecessary.
